Lal Bir Gurung, originally from Laprak-4 in Gorkha, Nepal, served as a high-altitude porter for over a decade. Despite his extensive experience, his lack of formal education prevented him from becoming a guide. With three daughters and a son (the youngest), Lal Bir faces the additional challenge of being diagnosed with cancer resulting from Piles disease. Struggling with a low economic status, Lal Bir is currently undergoing cancer treatment in Kathmandu. He, along with his family, resides in Kathmandu for his treatment. Despite the challenging circumstances, Lal Bir remains determined to provide an education for his children. Balancing the costs of his cancer treatment and the educational needs of his children has become an overwhelming challenge.
